When you install the beta version in any other language than that of the already installed Windows version , both apps and programs will be lost. When installing the pre-release version of the same language only subsequently installed language packs will be lost.
Loss of information occurs when you switch from the pre-release version to the final. At least the installed applications do not survive the procedure, according to Microsoft. The use of a production system is therefore not recommended and you should always backup all data before installing the pre-release.
Windows 8.1 has a start button in the home screen .The home screen itself receives some small adjustments. In addition there are two new tile sizes and some filter that arrange apps by name, size or frequency of use category. In multi-monitor operation , the home screen is now always visible on a monitor and does not disappear automatically if you use another app or application.
Besides, Windows 8.1 Microsoft released pre-release versions of other software products. Server 2012 R2 and System Center 2012 R2 are already available to download since yesterday. For the management of Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 from a computer running Windows 8.1 the appropriate management tool (RSAT) is already available to download.
The final version of Windows 8.1 will come later in the year on the market. For owners with a licenced version of Windows 8, the update will be free.
